Our Commitment to Child Safety

Family Minded Statement of Commitment to Child Safety (2026)

Family Minded is committed to the safety, participation, and empowerment of all children and young people. We have zero tolerance for child abuse in any form, including physical, sexual, emotional, psychological abuse, or neglect. All allegations and concerns will be taken seriously and managed consistently with our policies, mandatory reporting obligations, and the Reportable Conduct Scheme.

We actively prevent abuse by identifying and reducing risks early—including in online and telehealth settings—and by embedding child safety in our leadership, culture, and daily practice.

We uphold the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards and comply with the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005, Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, and related laws.

In particular, we are committed to:
  • Promoting the cultural safety and empowerment of Aboriginal children.
  • Ensuring cultural safety for children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Providing a safe, inclusive environment for children with a disability, those identifying as LGBTIQ+, from refugee backgrounds, or with other diverse needs.
  • Listening to children, involving them in decisions that affect them, and respecting their views.
  • Involving families and communities in our child safety efforts.

We support our staff and volunteers through robust recruitment (including WWCCs), training (including national child safety requirements from February 2026), supervision, and a culture of accountability.

We encourage feedback and complaints without fear of reprisal—contact our Child Safety Champion (Director, Katherine Hill) at [email protected] or 03 9811 7052.

From 23 February 2026, child safety reports and concerns will be handled by the Social Services Regulator (ssr.vic.gov.au).

We review this commitment and our practices annually to ensure continuous improvement.
