Adults

At Family Minded, we work with adults across a range of life stages and experiences.

Our approach is collaborative, practical and strengths-based. We focus on understanding what is happening for you, what may be contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing, and what support or changes may be helpful.

We support adults with concerns such as:

  • anxiety, low mood, stress and overwhelm

  • adjustment to life changes and transitions

  • parenting stress and the emotional demands of caring for others

  • relationship and interpersonal difficulties

  • mild to moderate mental health concerns

  • building confidence, coping skills and greater understanding of longstanding patterns.

For some adults, therapy focuses on a specific concern. For others, it may involve developing a clearer understanding of relationships, identity, past experiences or patterns that may be getting in the way.

Our psychologists draw on a range of evidence-informed approaches depending on the person, their goals and the concerns bringing them to therapy. This may include CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, psychodynamic-informed approaches and, where appropriate, trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR.

Neurodivergent Adults

We support autistic and ADHD adults, including people exploring their neurodivergent identity or seeking support that better fits their needs.

Therapy may focus on emotional regulation, executive functioning, burnout, relationships, self-understanding and practical strategies for everyday life.

Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming and tailored to each person's strengths, circumstances and goals.

Perinatal Wellbeing

Pregnancy, becoming a parent and the early parenting years can bring significant emotional, physical and relational changes.

We can support adults experiencing:

  • anxiety or low mood during pregnancy or after birth

  • adjustment to parenthood

  • parenting confidence and overwhelm

  • identity changes

  • relationship strain

  • birth-related trauma

  • the interaction between neurodivergence and parenting.

Members of our team have completed placements or training in perinatal mental health settings.

Trauma & Recovery

We support adults recovering from traumatic or highly distressing experiences.

This may include:

  • trauma and post-traumatic stress

  • recovery following crime or interpersonal violence

  • motor vehicle accident-related trauma

  • anxiety, avoidance and heightened threat responses

  • grief and loss

  • changes in identity, relationships or functioning following trauma.

Several of our psychologists have completed, or are completing, training in EMDR alongside other evidence-informed trauma approaches.

When Family Minded may not be the right service

Family Minded is not a crisis service and does not provide emergency mental health care.

We also do not provide:

  • forensic psychology services

  • court-directed or medico-legal assessment

  • specialist drug and alcohol treatment

  • intensive crisis or acute mental health support.

Where needs fall outside our scope, we will recommend a more appropriate service where possible.
