Parent & Carer Consultations

Sometimes the most helpful way to support a child or young person is to work with the adults around them.

Parent and carer consultations provide space to understand what is happening, identify what may be contributing, and develop practical approaches that fit your child and family.

They can be useful whether or not your child is also attending therapy.

When consultations may help

Parents and carers may seek support with:

  • behaviour that feels difficult to understand

  • emotional regulation

  • anxiety, school stress or school avoidance

  • routines, transitions and everyday demands

  • autism, ADHD or other developmental differences

  • repeated conflict at home

  • parenting stress or uncertainty

  • differences in parenting approaches

  • questions about how much support to provide

  • a child or young person who does not want individual therapy

  • uncertainty about what kind of support may be helpful next.

What we may work on

Sessions may focus on:

  • understanding what is happening beneath behaviour

  • identifying patterns, triggers and pressure points

  • understanding regulation, capacity and developmental needs

  • deciding when to support, scaffold or step back

  • adjusting expectations or demands

  • strengthening routines and communication

  • reducing conflict

  • building confidence in parenting decisions

  • supporting consistency across caregivers.

Our approach is collaborative, practical and tailored to your family.

If your child is taking a therapy break

Parent and carer consultations can continue even when a child or young person is not attending therapy.

This can help families respond to current challenges, maintain progress and support the child without requiring them to attend sessions themselves.
