Clinical Supervision
Child, Family & Neurodevelopmental Practice
Supervision for psychologists working with children, adolescents, families and neurodivergent clients.
Child and family work can become complex quickly. Development, neurodivergence, family relationships, school systems, mental health, risk and differing perspectives can all intersect within the same case.
Supervision provides space to step back, make sense of what is happening, and decide what to do next.
My approach is structured, practical and formulation-driven, with a focus on strengthening clinical reasoning, intervention planning and confidence in complex practice.
I am a Psychology Board of Australia-approved supervisor for Clinical Psychology Registrars and provide supervision that can meet registrar program requirements.
Areas of Supervision
I particularly enjoy supporting psychologists working in child, adolescent, family and neurodevelopmental practice, including:
-
Complex child and family presentations
-
Autism and ADHD assessment
-
Differential diagnosis and diagnostic reasoning
-
Case formulation and intervention planning
-
Parenting support and psychoeducation
-
Developmental and neurodiversity-affirming practice
-
Family dynamics and systemic work
-
Ethical decision-making, boundaries and risk
-
Reports, documentation and professional communication
-
Working effectively with schools, referrers and other systems
-
Clinician sustainability and reflective practice
Supervision can be ongoing and developmental or focused on a particular case, assessment question or clinical dilemma.
My Approach to Supervision
I bring more than 15 years experience as a psychologist and 10 years' experience supervising psychologists working in child and family private practice.
My supervision is:
Formulation-driven
We work out what is happening before deciding what to do about it.
Developmentally grounded
Children's skills, capacity and support needs are considered alongside — rather than assumed from — chronological age.
Neurodiversity-affirming
We consider the person, their environment, their strengths and their support needs without reducing every difficulty to behaviour or diagnosis.
Systemically informed
Children do not exist in isolation. Parents, siblings, schools, services and broader systems are often important parts of both the formulation and the intervention.
Practical and direct
Reflection matters, but supervision should also help you move forward. Sessions focus on translating clinical thinking into clear next steps.
Ethically thoughtful
Complex practice rarely involves perfectly simple answers. Supervision provides space to think carefully about competing responsibilities, risk, boundaries and professional judgement.
The goal is to leave supervision with a clearer understanding of the case, a stronger clinical rationale and a practical direction forward.
Supervision May Be Helpful When...
You are:
-
Unsure what is driving a child's presentation
-
Feeling stuck despite trying multiple interventions
-
Managing competing perspectives between a child, parents, school or other professionals
-
Building confidence in autism or ADHD assessment
-
Working through differential diagnosis or a complex developmental profile
-
Trying to decide how much to support, scaffold, accommodate or stretch a young person
-
Developing your work with parents and families
-
Refining reports, formulations or recommendations
-
Navigating an ethical or professional dilemma
-
Wanting greater clinical depth and confidence in private practice
You do not need to have the answer before bringing something to supervision. Working out the right questions is often part of the process.
